‘Klub Zagorje’ was formed in 1993 in Toronto, Ontario. It formed during the Croatian War of Independence, as Croatians in Toronto and the surrounding areas wanted to: help their fellow Croatians who were fighting for freedom. Further, Croatian-Canadians wanted to bring a piece of the homeland to Toronto, to create an enriched sense of community. Klub Zagorje became an outlet for Croatians who wanted to celebrate their nationality, share Croatian traditions, and send love back to the homeland. Klub Zagorje has always focused on charity, including sending financial and material aid to Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war (ambulances, wheelchairs, military equipment, etc.). The assistance has continued in the post-war era by financially supporting school projects, churches, members of the Croatian-Canadian community who require assistance, and war veterans and their families. The Klub also supports humanitarian action in Canada and across the world.

The Klub’s main purpose is to allow Croatians from all over, and more specifically from the northern region of Zagorje, to gather together. Gatherings vary from small meetings to large banquets and concerts, allowing the members and supporters to nurture and share the Croatian customs to younger generations. The Klub’s main event is a New Year’s Eve banquet where the main entertainment are famous bands and/or singers from Croatia.
