The Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce is pleased to inform you that Berry Vrbanovic is a mayoral candidate for The City of Kitchener. The municipal elections are to be held October 27th, 2014.
Berry Vrbanovic’s caring and approachable style has served the people of Kitchener since being elected to City Council in 1994. Prior to that, Berry served in a variety of staff roles at the City of Kitchener, beginning part-time in 1986 in the City Clerk’s Department and moving to full-time within the City in 1989, working in the City’s Computer Systems area until his election in 1994.
Born in Zagreb, Croatia, Berry’s family immigrated here in 1969. As a result, he understands the challenges resulting from being Canada’s third largest intake centre for new Canadians and the issues faced by these thousands of new Canadians making Kitchener their new home.
Raised in Kitchener, Berry attended Smithson and St. Daniel’s elementary schools, St. Jerome’s High School and Wilfrid Laurier University where he completed a BA in Political Science and received a Diploma in Business Administration.
Residing on Shuh Avenue in the Stanley Park area of the ward, Berry has owned his own promotional marketing business in the past, and presently runs a small consulting business. He is a member of the Croatian-Canadian Community and has been actively involved in the community over the years. Berry is past president of Kraljica Jelena Folklore Group.
While the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce is a not-for-profit (and non-political) network of Croatian-Canadian businesses, professionals and community organizations that does not endorse any political parties, we are pleased to acknowledge and support the endeavours of Canadians of Croatian descent. As such, in addition to wishing Berry a successful campaign and election, we feel that it is important to assist him in his campaign and in ensuring that our Croatian-Canadian community has a voice in municipal politics.
Many speak of the need for the next generation in our community to step up – this is our opportunity to support a younger, vibrant, intelligent and proven community leader. Berry is a great candidate that will be able to fill the shoes of former Croatian-Canadian political representatives, including the likes of MPP Mr. John (Domagoj) Šola and MP Mr. Janko Perić, as well as join other representatives currently in office including Minister of State, the Hon. Lynne Yelich and the Mayor of Hamilton, Mr. Bob Bratina, among others.
