Croatian Catholic Parishes Contribute $40,000 Towards Construction of Memorial To The Victims Of Communism

A contribution of $40,000 was presented on Sunday, January 7th, 2018 to representatives of Tribute to Liberty (TTL) in a church full of parishioners by Fr. Tomislav Kasić (Croatian Martyrs Parish – Mississauga) and Fr. Ivan Vukšić (Holy Trinity Parish – Oakville) on behalf of the Croatian Catholic parishes in Canada, representing the generous contributions of their members.

The Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce is proud to have contributed nearly $7,000 to the fundraising campaign spearheaded by Fr. Tomislav Kasić and the Croatian Catholic parishes in Canada in connection with the construction of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Ottawa.

The Memorial To The Victims of Communism : : Tribute To Liberty will serve as a public reminder of the millions of victims of Communism (including members of the Croatian community) and will bring the suffering of these victims into the public’s consciousness. Construction of the Memorial in Ottawa will begin in 2018 and is scheduled to be completed in late 2018 or early 2019.

The Chamber’s contribution was made possible thanks to our community’s participation in, and the proceeds from, the “Bitka za Vukovar” community event and “Croatian Christmas” held in Mississauga in November and December 2017, respectively.

Special thanks to Fr. Tomislav, the Croatian Catholic parishes in Canada that participated and to all those who contributed to the fundraising campaign.

Together, we make success!
