On Sunday, December 6th representatives of Croatian community in Ontario have gathered to welcome honorable Gordan Jandroković, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration who had official meeting with honorable Mr. Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism of Canada. The Celebration of Croatian-Canadian partnership was hosted by Croatian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Croatian Embassy in Ottawa and Consulate in Mississauga.
In the lovely atmosphere of Croatian Restaurant in Mississauga, Minister Jandroković had received warm welcome from those in attendance. He was greeted by the Chamber President, John Marion, Consul General Ljubinko Matešić and Ambassador of Republic of Croatia to Canada, Vesela Mrđen Korać. Ambassador Korać have pointed out that it was the first official visit of Croatian high official to Canada on a ministerial level, and a result of years-long efforts by the Croatian diplomacy, as well as Croatian community in Canada, which worked hard on removing obstacles on the way to a full development of cooperation between two governments.
In his address, Honorable Gordan Jandroković emphasized recent successes of Croatian diplomacy and progress of the Croatian-Canadian economic and other relations. He spoke about measures the Croatian government is undertaking to further economic growth and carry out with the reforms which will guarantee Croatian accession to the European Union. Minister Jandroković stressed determination of the new Croatian Premier Jadranka Kosor to continue improving relations with Croatians Diaspora around the world and ensuring cooperation with its country of descent. Minister Jandrokovic recognized contribution of Croatian-Canadians through the years of struggle during the Homeland war, and thanked them for continuous support in the recent years, encouraging investments and business relations with Croatia.
Honorable Minister Kenney greeted visiting Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs reflecting on improved relations between two countries. Minister Kenney said that the decision to cancel visas was a sign that the Canadian Government has recognized Croatia’s growing importance on the international scene.
