Hotel developer Darko Vranich, whose projects are reshaping Hamilton’s downtown, has been honoured with a worldwide award from the Hilton hotel chain.
Vranich has been named 2013 Developer of the Year for his Homewood Suites by Hilton projects in Hamilton, Timmins and North Bay.
Hilton Worldwide, representing 11 brands in 93 countries, gave the award in Orlando last week at its Hilton Worldwide Owner’s Conference.
Vranich, president of the Vrancor Group, has developed and operated 14 hotels and multiple residential projects around the province.
Vrancor Hotels Group operates 612 hotel rooms in the city now, including the Staybridge Suites on Caroline Street and the newly opened 182-suite, $35-million Homewood on Bay Street South.
Vrancor, which relocated its head office to Hamilton three years ago, will have made a $200-million investment in the city by the end of 2015, including the hotels and a pair of condo towers currently rising on the site of the former federal government office building at Caroline and Main streets.
