Remember Vukovar – “Glave Dole, Ruke Na Leđa“ – Thank you!

Members of the Croatian-Canadian community from Toronto, Missisauga, Oakville, Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener and surrounding areas gathered at Kraljica Mira – Norval on November 18 to remember those who perished and sacrificed for present-day Croatia and to show their support for the town and people of Vukovar.

Following a commemorative mass led by Fra Marko Puljic and a moment of silence, Glavu dole ruke na leđa (Heads Down, Hands Behind Your Back) made its premiere presentation in Canada. The documentary, which depicts 269 days in a concentration camp, 7000 people, and 1 story, was directed, written and produced by Stipo Majic Pipe and clearly had a powerful and moving impact on those in attendance. The evening was a show of support for the need of action and results on the part of Croatian institutions and to let the victims, defenders and residents of Vukovar know that they have not been forgotten.

The Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce would like to thank the local organizations that contributed to the event including the Queen of Peace Croatian Franciscan Center, HKUD Kralj Zvonimir – Norval, Croatian Folklore, Women’s Organization “Krunica”, Magarac Productions and TMT.

Donations collected at the event will be put towards another film production that is intended to raise further awareness about Vukovar – this time, about one of its heroes, Gen. Blago Zadro.

Without Vukovar, there would be no Croatia today.
