With 30,000 fans in attendance at BMO Field, over 800 Croatian-Canadian fans took part in the 6th Annual Croatian Heritage Night on August 20, cheering on Toronto FC as they played Montreal Impact.
While our Croatian-Canadian youth prepared to take part in the on-field opening ceremony, DJ Tommy Skara and our special guests from Croatia – Samo Tamburaši i Borsa 1862 – entertained those gathered with a great party atmosphere!
It was with pride that children participated in the opening ceremonies and toured the stadium prior to the game for an experience they won’t soon forget.
This year’s Croatian Heritage Night was extra special with the announcement earlier in the day that Toronto FC signed goalkeeper Luka Gavran through the 2023 season with options for 2024 and 2025.
Luka, 23, has registered three clean sheets and 86 saves through 17 appearances (16 starts) for Toronto FC II during the 2023 MLS NEXT Pro regular season. Earlier this season, Luka signed four MLS short-term agreements with the First Team during the 2023 MLS regular season. He was originally selected 31st overall (second round) by Toronto FC in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft and then signed with Toronto FC II, the club’s MLS NEXT Pro team, on March 24, 2022.
