Croatian Heritage Night (Day) ❤️🇭🇷⚽️🇨🇦 Over 700 Croatian Heritage Night (Day) ❤️🇭🇷⚽️🇨🇦 Over 700 participants attended the 9th Annual Croatian Heritage Night (Day) on October 10 as Toronto FC took on CF Montréal. It was wonderful to see so many Croatian-Canadians, families, friends and soccer fans come together to celebrate Croatian heritage and share in the excitement of the game. This year’s celebration was especially meaningful as it marked the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Toronto Metros-Croatia NASL championship victory.  Those in attendance welcomed several Toronto Metros-Croatia alumni including Slavko Paric (Managing Director), George Simcich (General Manager) and former players Bob Iarusci, Carmine Marcantonio and Paul D’Agostino, which added to the significance of the occasion.  The pre-party at the Budweiser King Club featured entertainment by DJ Škara, commemorative Toronto Metros-Croatia Heritage Day T-shirts, a raffle and a lively atmosphere leading up to kickoff. One of the highlights of the day was seeing nearly 80 Croatian-Canadian children take part in Toronto FC player experiences.   Another highlight was Toronto Metros-Croatia being honoured on the pitch prior to kick-off, with the ceremonial coin toss. Following the game, fans who braved the chilly conditions were rewarded with a close-up and personal opportunity to meet Toronto FC defender Benjamín Kuscevic. Benjamín was humble, warm and engaging, discussing his Croatian-Chilean roots and soccer career and making the time to connect with fans and sign some autographs for the youth in attendance. Unfortunately, due to having suffered an injury during the game, Toronto FC goalkeeper Luka Gavran, was unable to participate. Special thanks to members and friends of our Croatian-Canadian community who attended the event, brought their children, wore their colours proudly, shared in the festivities and helped make this event a success!  We also extend our sincere appreciation to MLSE, Toronto FC and everyone who helped bring this event together. The connection between our Croatian heritage and the soccer communities across Canada is something worth celebrating!
🇨🇦🇺🇸 - 100 years of the Croatian Franciscan Custod 🇨🇦🇺🇸 - 100 years of the Croatian Franciscan Custody of the Holy Family represents an extraordinary milestone — a century of tireless service to Croatian communities across Canada and the United States. For generations, Croatian Franciscans have been far more than spiritual leaders. They have been pillars of our communities and steadfast guardians of both our Catholic faith and our Croatian heritage. Through churches, missions and pastoral work, they created places where Croatian families could gather, worship in their Croatian language, preserve their traditions and remain connected to one another and to their ancestral homeland. Their contribution is woven deeply into the story of the Croatian diaspora in North America. Through changing generations and changing times, the Croatian Franciscans have worked tirelessly to ensure that our faith, language, culture and traditions would not simply survive, but continue to flourish. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to fra Nikola Pašalić, Custodian of the Croatian Franciscans in Canada and the United States, and his Franciscan brothers, together with our profound gratitude to every Franciscan who has dedicated his life to serving our people over the past century. It was also especially meaningful to have fra Jozo Grbeš travel from Mostar to Chicago to take part in this week’s gathering and joint centennial celebration. Now serving as Provincial of the Herzegovinian Franciscan Province in Mostar, fra Jozo previously served as the Custodian of the Croatian Franciscans in Canada and the United States and spent important years serving the Croatian community in Chicago. His leadership and contributions during that period form part of the Custody’s continuing legacy, making his return to Chicago for this historic celebration particularly fitting. A century of Catholic faith. A century of sacrifice and service. A century of preserving our Croatian identity. Congratulations on this historic centennial — čestitamo od srca! 🇭🇷✝️🙏
