The Western Canadian Croatian Folklore Festival was first held in Edmonton, Alberta in 1978 to bring together Croatian folklore groups throughout Western Canada. The festival is held every May long weekend in a different Western local from Manitoba on.
The Croatian Canadian Folklore Federation-West (CCFFW) hosts the event alongside the local Croatian Folk Ensemble in that city. They have held the festival in Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge, Pentiction, Vancouver, Winnipeg and culminated with their 40th Anniversary in Victoria, BC in 2017.
The weekend is filled with events for the participants and guests, but the showcase is the concert, in which the participating groups take great joy in sharing the beauty and diversity of the Croatian culture. From large ensemble pieces and A Capella suites, Tambmica Orchestra and silent dances, the groups have been delighting crowds for 40 years.
Beyond just the performances, the festival strives to engage the local communities in experiencing Croatian culture. At the end of the weekend, CCFFW is proud to award a scholarship to a deserving student moving on to post secondary studies.
Tambmica Orchestra Kardinal Stepinac of Vancouver has the pleasure of hosting this year’s festival in May of 2019.
