Chamber Hosts 2006 Members' Reception

As part of its recent membership campaign, the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce held a Member's Reception on Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at Croatia Restaurant in Mississauga.

"We now have over 100 members and we decided that this event would allow everyone the opportunity to get acquainted and conduct some business networking in a more relaxed atmosphere," said Chamber President John Marion. Board Member and Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Steve Pozgaj, expressed the Chamber's gratitude to its members and supporters. "This event is for you, our members, who believed in the value of this organization for our community and were among the first to join." He also thanked the Chamber's benefactors whose financial support was crucial to its operation in its inaugural few years.

As an additional bonus for members, the Chamber had a special guest in attendance. Her Excellency Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration for the Republic of Croatia informed the members of Croatia's progress in negotiations with the European Union and the current state of political affairs. The Chamber presented the Minister with a limited edition print of Croatian Rhapsody, a painting by member Nada Sesar-Raffay, as well as an honourary membership in the organization.

Joining the Minister were Her Excellency Vesela Mrden-Korac, Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia to Canada; Mr. Mario Livaja, Consul-General of the Republic of Croatia to Canada; Mrs. Betty Pavelich-Sirois, Advisor to the Minister; Mrs. Ivana Crnic, Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Republic of Croatia; Mr. Refik Sabanovic, Counselor, Consulate General of the Republic of Croatia in Mississauga; and Mr. Zvonko Antunovic, Member of Delegation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Republic of Croatia.

The diversity of the Chamber was evident as many new faces were seen mingling in the crowd. "Our membership campaign has resulted in many younger professionals and business people joining the organization," said Board Member Joe Draganjac. "Combined with the more established Chamber associates, we have quite a dynamic membership being developed."

The Chamber would like to thank all who shared in this celebration of our members. Special thanks to Chamber member Joe Pavicic of Likro Precision who facilitated the presence of a crew from Croatian Television (HTV) for the reception. A short feature documenting the entire event, and featuring an interview with Chamber President John Marion, appeared on HTV Wednesday, November 29.
