Legendary entertainer Bing Crosby once turned down a plum acting role because filming would have interfered with his golf schedule. Similarly, 120 devout golfers put all else aside to attend the Canadian-Croatian Chamber of Commerce’s 3rd Annual Golf Tournament on Tuesday, September 16, 2006 at the scenic Glen Eagle Golf Club in Bolton, Ontario.

Croatian business people, associates, and friends from Windsor to Zagreb made up the largest field of golfers in the history of the event, which went smoothly thanks to Mother Nature’s cooperation. After an afternoon on the links, the participants enjoyed a fabulous dinner followed by the tournament’s awards ceremony.

The evening concluded with a raffle whose grand prize was a Croatian national soccer jersey and photograph autographed by scoring legend Davor Suker. The lucky winner was Mr. Mario Livaja, Consul General of the Republic of Croatia to Canada, who proudly proclaimed, “This is going up on the wall at the Consulate!”

Part of the raffle’s proceeds were donated towards the publication of a book of poetry by Veselko Koroman, one of the most noteworthy contemporary poets in the Croatian language and one of the most significant Croatian writers of Bosnia-Herzegovina. His recent, critically acclaimed collection of poems Deadly Nightshade Juice (Sok od Velebilja) has been translated into English by Dr. Vladimir Bubrin of Toronto, who graciously accepted the Chamber’s gift from President John Marion.
